Richard the Lionhearted is the reputed first famous guest of Dürnstein. What the legendary English king did not enjoy quite voluntarily almoust exactly 8 centuries ago, awaits you almost entirely unchanged: one of the most beautiful untouched river basins of Europe, nesting among the wooded hills of the Waldviertel and the Dunkelsteiner Wald. Here in the Wachau, where the mild sunny climate is benficial not only for the wine, the Thiery family offers preferential treatment to their guests. The family runs this establishment since 1884, now in the third generation, a place in the excellent ambience of a former convent of Clarissinnas right on the Danube.
